The Danish Society for Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Foundation and IDA Maritim hosted several presentations by the European and Danish projects on the topic of fire safety on board ferries including LASH FIRE during a hybrid conference that took place online and in Copenhagen on 4 April.

Sif LundsvigDFDS Denmark presented LASH FIRE’s objectives in general and the role of DFDS in the project where it contributes with necessary data as well as suitable vessels for tests and validation of results.

Sifis Papageorgiou of the European Maritime Safety Agency and Julia Burgén of the RISE Research Institutes of Sweden both gave online presentations related to the work of LASH FIRE project.

Julia addressed current firefighting techniques and whether new fire training is required for crew members to effectively handle such fires while Sifis, gave a short presentation on the Expert Group work currently being done on the development of common EU Guidance on the Carriage of AFVs in Ro-Ro Spaces.

Julia also presented a short summary of BREND 2.0 project on behalf of her RISE colleague Anna Olofsson. Grit Ladage was present as well on behalf of Center of Maritime Technologies gGmbH– as LASH FIRE Dissemination leader.
